Phil MacHugh is fast becoming one of Scotland's funkiest and most charismatic male television presenters. Born into a Gaelic speaking family with a penchant for the performing arts, it was no surprise when Phil became a Gaelic TV presenter at just 14 years old. He is now 23 and there's no holding him back.
This talented Scottish lad has already had a colourful media career. He has presented 'Jump'n'Shout Scotland' for cable channel Smash Hits TV, 'Boxfresh' Live Pop Music Tours for The Box TV, BBC Scotland's '@Ire' and 'De a Nis?' as well as BBC Choice's 'Beyond 2000'. He was also music presenter for Scottish TV programme, 'Splaoid' and Rock Music Show 'Nochd Gun Chadal'.
While studying for his Journalism degree at Napier University in Edinburgh, Phil began his writing career as a socialite columnist, attending all the hot parties and events across Scotland and writing a twice-weekly social events column for 'Business AM' titled 'Phil and the B.AM girls'.
As an actor, he played the main character Seumas in CBBC Scotland's Children's Programme SNAS, which was based around a Scottish Rock Band. The Children's Education Drama was so successful that it was given a second series. Phil also played 'James' in the BBC Drama, 'Consider the Lilies'.
Phil is also a Champion Highland dancer and he promotes and compares events for VisitScotland and Glasgow City Council at International Celtic festivals across the world. In November 2007, he was snapped up by Lithuanian Television Network, LNK and businessman Vladimir Romanov to work on the Baltic version of the popular TV show 'Stictly Come Dancing' as a creative director. Under Phil's guidance and choreography, Vladimir won the Celebrity Dance Competition.
Over the past 16 months, Phil has filmed strands for a new Scottish TV magazine show, 'You have to do this...' where you will see him tackle a variety of fun tasks such as speed dating, climbing Scotland's tallest tree, swimming with sharks and making pottery. He fronted the VisitScotland 'Tartan Week' in New York City for NBC and presented live daily coverage from Grand Central Staion during the two week festival. Unusually for him, he also scripted and presented a one-off feature for the popular BBC1 countryside show 'Landward' filmed at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.
